Choices! Choices!

Choosing between good and evil is rarely difficult. The struggle invariably lies in choosing between the good and the best.   Yesterday I made that difficult choice.  I chose to resign my volunteer position as a Girl Guides leader.

My friends know that I am passionate about equipping and empowering girls to walk in their power as beloved daughters of God.  I am intensely motivated to raise up the next generation of girls as leaders who change our world.  Girl Guides meets that objective.

However, I realized that I had overextended myself again and was heading towards burn out.  Over the weekend I saw my spiritual director who commented that I looked quite exhausted.  She was right!  At that moment I knew that it was time to make a change.  So yesterday I deliberately stepped down from my position at Girl Guides.

I was amazed at my emotional response. I didn’t feel guilty, nor wanted to belittle myself with self-deprecating thoughts.   In fact, I felt relieved – a weight has been lifted off my shoulder.

This morning creative ideas began flowing – new strategies on ways to grow my business.  Original thoughts about potential speaking engagements are spontaneously emerging.   My desire to become a motivational speaker has intensified.

This experience undoubtedly confirms my belief that giving up what is good ultimately creates space for the unfolding of what is best.   So today don’t just settle for what is good.  Hit the bull’s eye.  Choose the best!!

Oops! Computer Challenges!

I’m enjoying a lovely spring day in Toronto.  This is my favourite time of the year.  It feels like everything comes alive.  Except my computer!!

Yes, the inevitable internet breakdown.  Oh joy! Yesterday afternoon I lost my internet connection.  After talking with the service provider, I found out that they may not solve the problem until Saturday.

Let me tell you, I was not impressed!  Don’t they know that I depend on the computer to build my business.  Don’t they care?!?

At first I flipped out. When I calmed down I remembered about the employment resource centre close to me where I can have free internet access and low cost printing.  So I hurried over to the centre this morning.

I am learning that I get to choose how I respond to challenges.  I can react or I can be thankful.  I choose to be thankful.

I thank God that there is a centre with free computer access close to me.  I am thankful that it’s close to Curves, where I work out.  I’m heading to Curves when I’m finished at the resource centre.

I am thankful that there is a library across from my apartment where I can have internet access this evening.  I am thankful that my service provider is working on my internet problem.  I am thankful for the beautiful spring day!

I am thankful!

The Power of Association

I recently returned from my company’s business convention.   What an amazing experience! I was blown away by the upbeat and encouraging people that I met.  I was so excited to connect with so many people who want to create wealth and make a difference in the world.

The energy was phenomenal!  I was charged.  I knew that nothing could stop me.  I began to set even
bigger goals for myself.  That’s the power of the awesome energy that’s generated by positive people.

That’s when I realized the power of association, that the people I hang out with can motivate me to
reach my goals.  Or if I spend time with negative and critical people, I will focus on the negative and have negative results.

So, with whom do you associate?  Ask yourself some tough questions about your friends.   For you are
definitely influenced by the company you keep.  If you want to experience success in your business, then objectively assess the quality of your friends.

Get away to a quiet place. List your 10 closest friends. Are they critical, skeptical people who deliberately
denigrate the wealthy?  Or, do they extol the efforts of the affluent?  Are your friends creative problem solvers? How do they respond to the challenges they experience?

What is your friends’ perception of the current economic recession?  Do they complain and worry?  Or,
are they aware that we are on the verge of a massive transfer of wealth and are looking for opportunities to take advantage of it?

Most important, how do you feel when you are with them?  Do you feel energized and excited?  Or, do
you feel drained and depressed?

Once you evaluate your friends, you will need to determine how much contact you want to maintain
with them.  Will the relationship enhance your goal of creating a successful business?

With some people you may choose to spend less time. For others, you may decide to end the friendship
as you realize that it’s time to move on.  As you do, you create the space to develop a better relationship.

So how do you find like-minded, positive people?   Be positive yourself.  Thank God for the positive
people who are in your life. Nurture them.  Be the person you would like to have as a friend. Check out online forums, such as Meetup. Attend your company’s events.  Ask God to direct positive people in your path.

Visualize the successful online business that you are creating.  See yourself as a successful, powerful
online entrepreneur who attracts upbeat, passionate people into your life.  Know you are making a difference in the world!!

How to build a successful business that thrives in the recession

It seems like the R-word is taking over. Everywhere I look the media reports on all the problems of the recession. There is a negative mindset of hunkering down to try and survive this economic upheaval.

So how can you handle it as an entrepreneur? Can you actually make money and build an online business that doesn’t just survive the recession, but thrives? Can you be a successful entrepreneur during these challenging times? Yes!

Your attitude makes all the difference in the world. You get to choose what you will focus on. You can focus on the negative messages in the media and dwell on “riding out the economic storm.” Or you can look for the opportunities during the economic upheaval.

Did you know that during the last depression some of the greatest wealth was created? The individuals who saw the opportunity and took action created great wealth. Many people are facing layoffs or cutbacks and they realize that there is no such thing as a “good, secure job.”

This is a great time to recruit members for your home-based business. People are looking for business opportunities. Note the vast number of business opportunities on Facebook.

Do you choose to  focus on the layoffs and cutbacks and financial struggles that you may be experiencing? Or do you focus on all the people who are looking for a business opportunity?  How could you position yourself to connect with people who are looking for business opportunities?

What if you marketed your business opportunity to people in industries who are laying off staff? What would your life look like as some of them joined your business? It’s possible to tailor your marketing on Facebook to people in specific industries.

Pray. Ask God to show you other creative ways to market your business to people in companies who are laying off staff. If you want to have a different experience during the recession, you have to do something different.

Cut out negative people in your life or at least limit your contact with them. Sometimes you have to set clear boundaries with people telling them that certain topics are off-limits for you. Then if they start a negative conversation, change the topic. If they keep on talking, you may have to leave or end the conversation.

Hold the vision of your successful business in your mind. Write it out and read it daily at morning and night. Imagine how you will feel when you achieve your success. What will it feel like to drive that new car, to live in your new home? How will you feel when you can make a significant donation to the charity of your choice.

This economic downturn could be the best thing for your business. Choose to focus on the positive opportunities and watch your success unfold!

Handling challenges in my online business

There are always unexpected challenges for online entrepreneurs – so much to learn for the newbie entrepreneur.  Just when you think you’ve mastered one aspect of the business, other challenges emerge.

Two weeks ago I bought a video camera to market my business.  Now, understand that I am not a “techie” person at all.  I can handle some software, but I get lost with hardware or anything technical.  I didn’t realize that there was so much technical knowledge to be mastered in order to use the video camera.  After all, I don’t even have a digital camera and I’m from the “point & shoot” school of photography.

Being a classic overachiever, I decided to create 3 videos last week to market my business. 😉  No problem!  But God had another plan!  I kept having one technical problem after another.  Sometimes I was so furious with everything that throwing my laptop off my balcony felt like a realistic coping strategy.

So what did I learn from my video camera experience?  I learned to recognize my limits and ask other people for help.  I contacted the technical resources from my business as well as the support from the Flip video camera company. My mother also reminded me about my uncle who is a techie wiz, an additional available resource.

I discovered that setting realistic goals is imperative for my success.  My goal to create 3 videos in my first week was totally unrealistic.  Don’t you think?  A non-techie needs training time to master technical equipment.  So what did I do?  I signed up with Traffic Geyser.  Now I’m an enthusiastic, passionate student of video marketing.

I also became aware that sometimes I just have to do something physical to dissipate my feelings of frustration.  When I felt like throwing my laptop away, I walked away from my computer and went to my room to yell and scream and have a temper tantrum.  Who knew that temper tantrums can be an integral part of creating a successful online business

Finally, I was driven to my spiritual practice of centering prayer.  As I became more grounded, I began to see God’s hand in my video camera adventure.  God gave me this camera and He will connect me with people who can help me use it effectively to grow my business.  This video camera is God’s tool for my character development. It is a way for me to become the woman I need to be in order to achieve the success that I want.

So did I make the video?  Yes, I posted my first video on Youtube over a week ago.  Check it out!

Characteristics of the Successful Entrepreneur

Okay, you’ve started your business. You’re so excited. You know that you can build this business. You can do it! You can be a successful entrepreneur! Or can you?!

What are the common characteristics of a successful entrepreneur?

The best way to answer this question is to identify what a successful entrepreneur does. When I look for a successful entrepreneur, Robert Kiyosaki, the author of the Rich Dad series, comes to my mind. Knowing what he wanted to create, he kept going despite many “apparent failures.”

Reflecting on Kiyosaki and other successful entrepreneurs, I realize that they display the following characteristics:

  • They are visionaries – clearly know what they want to accomplish.
  • Have a plan or strategy to achieve their goals.
  • Maintain a routine to complete the required tasks for achieving their goals.
  • Persevere despite the challenges they face.
  • Are problem solvers – think outside the box.
  • Have a mentor, who coaches them and candidly identifies the issues including any self-destructive behaviour patterns.
  • Ask for help.
  • Apologize genuinely and take responsibility to rectify the situation.
  • Take action.

It’s easy to look at that list and think, “That’s not me. I could never be a successful entrepreneur.” Don’t be overwhelmed. Instead, think of the list as traits to work towards. Which of these characteristics do you already demonstrate? Applaud yourself.

Which characteristic would you like to develop? Take the time to reflect on specific ways you to improve it. Could you read a book, or find someone to help you improve this skill?

Remember, you already are a successful entrepreneur. Tenaciously hold the vision of your success and it will ultimately become your reality.

Balance and Running a Successful Online Business

Starting this online business was also the beginning of a journey of self-discovery.  My eyes are now opened to some of my negative behaviour patterns.  For example, I would often complain that my past employers were obsessive workaholics.

Now I’ve started my own business, I don’t have a boss, right?!  Wrong!  I am my own boss, and I am such a severe taskmaster.  God has such a sense of humour! 😉

I love building my business.  I delight in writing articles and posts for my blog.  However I have a tendency to become overly absorbed in these activities; staying at my computer late at night and then getting up early in the morning to continue.  My business fills my life.

The downside is that I’ve become so focussed on growing my business to the exclusion of anything else in my life.  This is self-destructive behaviour can lead to burnout.  .

Learning to set limits in order to maintain a balanced life is now a personal choice.  I choose add activities that nurture my soul.  I volunteer as a Brownie leader with Girl Guides and connecting with the girls really energizes me.

singing-with-a-friend2

Music also nurtures my soul.  Recently I attended an impromptu music reading Sunday after church and learned to sing a Spanish chamber music piece with other music lovers.  Later, attending a Jazz Vespers service at the church was musical bliss, heavenly!

So how do you maintain balance in your life?  Has your business taken over your life?  Or do you have activities that nurture your soul?  What nurtures you?  What makes your soul sing?

If building a successful online business feels like another mountain that you can’t climb, maybe the business isn’t the problem.  Maybe the challenge lies in how you are doing the business.  Are you doing activities that nurture you?

Remember that building a successful business isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon.  If we want our business to be around for the long haul, we need to build ourselves up so we can last.

You are God’s beloved child.  He has designed you for a life of joyful abundance.  Go out and nurture your soul today!

Achieving Success in Your Online Business

Yes, I did it.  I made my first sale in my new online business.  I am so excited!  I started this business at the beginning of December and I made my first major sale before the end of January!  Yahoo!

So being a very analytical person, I want to figure out what made the difference this time.  After all, I’ve been in many businesses for over 10 years, but I pondered what worked this time.

Well, I’ve been re-reading “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill.  He emphasizes the importance of becoming very clear on exactly how much money you want to receive.

He asserts that you should write down the exact amount of money you want to receive.  He also recommends that you read it to yourself first thing in the morning and last thing at night with feeling, believing that you already have what you desire.

Hill writes that “Your subconscious mind recognizes and acts only upon thoughts that have been well mixed with emotion or feeling.”

He also states “When visualizing the money you intend to accumulate (with closed eyes) see yourself rendering the service or delivering the merchandise you intend to give in return for the money.”

So this week, I started visualizing myself paying a significant tithe to my church in exchange for receiving my commission.  I also repeated my goal every morning and at night enthusiastically believing that I have already achieved my goal.

And now, I not only reached my goal but I exceeded it.  I achieved success in my business, when I realized that I am a success.  God is so good!

You too will achieve success in your business when you believe that you are successful.  For you are!  As wise person once said, “God doesn’t make no junk.”  You are God’s beloved child and He created you for a life of joy and prosperity.

Go out and craft that wonderfully successful online business that you’ve been longing to create.  Go make a difference in your world.

Attitude and Building a Successful Online Business

So, what’s my favourite online business?  Check it out!

Attitude is a key component to becoming a successful entrepreneur, to going the distance with your business.  It`s much easier to quit when you experience challenges than to hang in there.  So what is a proper attitude for an entrepreneur?

A successful entrepreneur will say that “Whatever it takes to make my business a success, I’ll do it”.  She tells herself, “I know that I am worthy of achieving my dreams. Nothing will stop me from accomplishing them and making a difference in my world.”

How do you maintain this attitude in the midst of challenges?  Reading good motivational books is a key factor to staying positive.  The books you read will influence you positively or negatively.  What kind of an influence do you want?

“I don’t like to read”, you may say, or “I don’t have time.”  Bottom line, leaders are readers.  A successful entrepreneur is a consistent reader.  If you commit to reading a chapter a day, in a month you will have read 30 chapters or up to 2 books of 15 chapters each.  In a year you would have read 24 books.

Reading a good book is like sitting at the feet of a master.  Imagine what your life would be like if you were mentored by Robert Kiyosaki or Donald Trump.  Read their books. Understand and apply what you learn. You are being coached by them.

Some suggested books include:

·       The Holy Bible

·       Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki

·       Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

·       The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles

·       Why We Want You To Be Rich by Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki

·       Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, by T. Harv Eker

·       The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss

·       Transforming Stress by Doc Childre and Deborah Rozman

·       Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins

·       The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz

Start with one of these books and let yourself be transformed by a master.  Your life will be forever changed.

Responding to Challenges while Building a Top Online Business

Well, here you are.  You’ve taken the plunge, started your online business.  You are so excited, you can hardly sleep!  You know that people are going to rush to your website and start ordering your product!  Yes!

Or, No?  It’s been 2 weeks and your website counter shows that only 10 people have even looked at the website and only 1 person has bought your product.  Well, you talk to your mentor and you get ideas on how to tweak the website.  But it’s been 4 weeks and only 20 people have visited your site and still just 1 person has bought your product.

What are you going to do?  Do you throw in the towel and give up? Do you quit and say that it’s hopeless to build a new business in today’s economic climate?  Do you listen to the friends or family members who tell you to stick with that “good, secure job” and stop this foolishness of building an online business?

What will keep you going during the tough times?  What will motivate you when it’s difficult to learn about Web 2.0 technology?

Your vision! Yes, your vision for building your business will give you the motivation to keep going.  Now, you do have a vision for your business, don’t you?  If you don’t have one, then take the time to figure out why you are doing this business.

You may say, “I don’t want to waste time with figuring out my vision.  I just want to make money.”  Taking time to build your vision is not a waste of time.  If Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki spend time thinking about the vision for their businesses, do you think that they may have something?

What is a vision?  Webster’s defines vision as a vivid mental image. So what is your vision for your business?  Find a quiet space and ask yourself some questions.

  • What would a successful online business look like for you?
  • What would your income be?
  • What would you do with the money?
  • Where would you be living?  In the country, in the city?
  • Who would you help with the money you make?

Write out your vision with descriptive details. The richer, more vibrant and in-motion your details are the better.  Use the present tense. Imagine yourself there.  You are there.  You have already created a successful online business.

Then put copies of your vision around you.  Read your vision out loud first thing in the morning and the last thing at night.  Create a vision board in your home with images that reflect what your life will be like when you have achieved your vision.

As you hold your vision in your consciousness, you will easily handle the challenges that surface.  Your vision of success will empower you to thrive in the midst of the difficulties.

May you be blessed as you create the online business of your dreams.
